Entertainment Maven started out in July of 2011 as a personal endeavour to work on my writing skills and have some fun in the process. As a fairly normal twenty-something male, I wasn’t easily able to pinpoint any specific attributes or angles that would set me aside from other bloggers. I could be funny, but maybe not hilarious. Colourful, but probably not poetic. Logical, but not absolutely scientific. Then, in a Eureka moment, I realized that my most valuable attribute is the amount of entertainment I’ve experienced. I have spent the better part of my life occupying excessive amounts of time experiencing all sorts of entertainment and storytelling: movies, books, video games, food, etc. One thing that I’ve learned throughout my experiences is to expect a high level of quality when it comes to entertainment, and to be uncompromising when products don’t deliver what they promise. Scary movies should be scary, and action movies should have us on the edge of our seats. Books should demand to be finished upon picking them up, if it takes a month to finish a book, it’s probably not very good, and should be set down.

Perhaps I could help steer people away from mediocre and inferior entertainment and help them reserve those hard earned dollars for those truly exceptional products. However, since the inception of Entertainment Maven and my experience on the Toronto film scene, the website has rapidly become a film website. I’ve met so many dedicated filmmakers and fans in the past year that this was the inevitable choice. Also, some of them have joined me as writers who are just as dedicated as I am to providing honest reviews and recommending the best of the best in the movie world.

Check back with us often at Entertainment Maven for the ‘best of the best’ in new release films, film festivals, and Toronto events.

We’ve got your back!
